Inside the Large Piece of Turf

In 1503 Albrecht Dürer painted the renowed work of art Large Piece of Turf using a mixed technique of pen drawing and watercolor. Inside the Large Piece of Turf  is a 3D animation modelled and created by Philip Paar,  (Lenné3D), and Jan Walter Schliep.This is not an attempt of a digital 'copy' of the celebrated artwork of Dürer, but an analytical model that depicts the distribution of the formative plant species in the master craftsman's painting. Therefore, only identifiable plants and plant positions are displayed. The basis of the model is formed by a quasi georeferenced planting plan. The digital plants are not visualised as Dürer's painting but generated with real photo textures and realistic shades, rendered with Maxon Cinema4D.
